Cafés have always social focus points in cities and urban neighbourhoods – places of social interaction, information exchange and creative knowledge production. Can we transfer this quality into the context of contemporary urban development, namely the fast growth of digital “smart” cities? In the block seminar / workshop we will explore how digital data may become a new ingredient of forming social urban spaces, like cafés. By way of an experimental design project, we will investigate how the production, provision and exchange of (urban) data may create new qualities in architectural and urban spatial settings – how the experience and interaction with digital information may trigger social life in the contemporary city.
