Story, fiction, report, documentary, reportage, biography. A story that is told using various digital text, photo and film materials and narrative methods is at the centre of the bachelor's seminar. It will be realised in the format of "desktop movies", a still young film genre.
The computer is used as a narrative and aesthetic viewing, research and recording tool to produce reports, television features, documentaries and essay films in a new, discursive form. Scientific, factual and objective information can be combined with personal impressions and comments and contradictory statements and theories of the digital world can be worked out.
The montage of a desktop film opens up the possibility of combining images and sounds in a linear organised linearly on the timeline as in conventional feature films and documentaries,
but to arrange them simultaneously in programme windows. The interface functions as an input and output instrument, recorded surface and recording camera, which is partly acoustically supported by commentary texts; it offers a discursive form of presentation that critically and entertainingly examines the topics of digital communities.
The task for the students will be to create a desktop movie on an individual topic.
