Beschreibung:
We analyze sacred spaces of different epochs and religions in terms of relation to the place, spatial sequence, spatial proportion, lighting and material. We work with pictures and drawings, perhaps also models, and learn to distinguish the important from the unimportant. Abstraction alternates with attention to detail to capture the big picture. What do we need to depict to understand the essence of a space, and what spatial aspects of sacred spaces can be worked out independent of religious ritual? This essence, which takes us to the core of the architectural language in question, should help us better navigate our own design process and identify the critical aspects of architectural challenges. Combining the analysis as well as the implicit design process, we will develop spaces of contemplation to test the insights we have gained.
