From wide-span to multi-storey structures

The system hierarchy and the functional principles of the elements involved in the vertical and horizontal load transfer of a hall support structure are considered. Beams and continuous systems are analysed and the basics of simple preliminary design of structural elements made of wood, steel, steel composite and reinforced concrete are learned. In addition, an introduction to the systematics of load-bearing structures of multi-storey building construction is given.

The aim of the course is to develop the ability to individually design appropriate load-bearing structures. The course includes lectures, tutorials and workshops. The certificate of achievement is obtained by working on an individual structural design with submission of a portfolio.
