Beschreibung:
In REAP Project III students will work in groups to develop innovative contextually appropriate and climate-responsive planning strategies to support the resource efficient urban regeneration of informal settlements in Tirana, Albania. Students will focus on the informal settlements that have been expanded along Lana river over the last 30 years of the post-socialist era. Within this period, the demographic phenomenon of migrating in Albania, while the country was experiencing different political, economic, cultural and social changes, increased the demand for housing, causing a boom in the construction sector that the state found difficulties to control.
At the heart of the course is a collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Tirana. Students from both universities will work in close cooperation with one another exploring not only on the area developed informally along Lana river, but also Kirchdorf-Süd, a housing quarter to the south of Hamburg built in the 70s with the concept of urbanity through density in the city´s outskirts. Students will gain first impressions and discuss the varying urban, institutional, environmental, social and cultural context within which each housing solution was built and now operates. This cross border analysis will provide for an interesting comparison, each site and housing solution with their unique challenges and opportunities, and guide the further analysis and concept development, which will take place at each respective university for the duration of the semester.
