Beschreibung:
The seminar “Expanding Design” focuses on a wider notion of architectural design, conceptionally as well as methodologically. Art and significant theoretical positions within the humanities are hereby important points of reference. The seminar departs from the influential essay “Sculpture in the Expanded Field” (1979) by art theoretician Rosalind Krauss in order to explore possible expanded dimensions of architecture and gain relational (design) knowledge.
In the seminar, students will experiment with different media and techniques (drawing, photography, film, objects, text) with the aim to broaden their field of (inter)action. Each summer term, a different topic and focus will be introduced at the beginning of the seminar.
This summer, the seminar will take place in connection to the HafenCity Lectures’ third edition of “Relations.”
