The lecture gives an overview of the essential foundations of law, which the engineer necessarily needs for coping with his professional life - in particular when providing his or her services. After a first introduction, which shows how the engineer is situated in the legal system, essential content will be the discussion of the construction process, the nature of the law of the contract to produce a work, namely under the German Civil Code (BGB) and according to the VOB/B. Furthermore, the guidelines of the decree regarding the professional scale of fees (HOAI) will be presented. All this is supported by comprehensive documents and a variety of case studies. The focus of the lecture is - using actual cases - fully practice oriented. The aim is to provide the essential skills in comprehending the necessary legal basics of the engineer service - in all its complexity.
