Beschreibung: Urban metabolism, regenerative city, circular economy, cradle to cradle, urban waste cycles - to be continued. All of these concepts and approaches are in a way linked to the question of how our city regions can better cope with the waste problem. The main objective of this course is to better understand these concepts from a theoretical and applied perspective and to develop proposals for concrete solutions in a case study area (District of Altona and County of Pinneberg). In the first phase of the seminar general knowledge on the above mentioned concepts will be acquired and discussed. Furthermore the case study area with its specific problematic will be introduced. The seminar is closely linked to the EU research project REPAiR. The previous results of REPAiR will be used as basis for the following case study work in the frame of the course. The second and main phase of the seminar is an international workshop week (18. – 22. June 2018). Students and teaching staff from the Technical University Delft (TUD) and the University of Naples (UNINA) will come to Hamburg. Both universities are involved in the REPAiR project. In mixed international groups students will analyze different aspects of the case study area and develop solutions. Examples of concrete problems that could be examined are: • Problems of waste separation in different settlement types (placement of containers, type of containers, design of container solutions ...) • The problem of organizing the waste / recycling chains (site shortage of recycling yards, alternative locations, alternative models) • The Lack of consideration of the topic of waste in new planning of individual buildings, neighborhoods (planning procedure, alternative solutions in other cities) • The Problem of raising awareness of waste issues (information and participation) • The Problem of material cycles in plant cultivation / tree nurseries (possible alternatives: collection, recovery); this is a problem in the county of Pinneberg • Transfer of good examples of waste prevention / reuse / upcycling (break in style, repair cafes, packaging-free shops ...) During the workshop week students will be able to meet experts and do field work in the case area. At the end of the week the results will be presented to all students, the teaching staff and external experts. HCU students will then compile written reports on their group works.
